Finally some Family to complete the holidays. Good food always follows when we finally get our schedules aligned and can get a mini Land Reunion together, tonight was no different. Delicious. I tried to be fare with photography, and take the same amount of each guest…

Catch can be a fun game, but i’m still not sure that Nina knew the “catcher” was actually supposed to move her hands. Below: this didn’t even phase her, AMAZING! I feel like i should feel bad laughing at these, but really she was having fun.

All smiles, she threw it right back.

Spencer does this thing when he comes over, he plays Monopoly. And he wins, so watch out world.

With water this cold you have to stare at it before you get in.

We ended up arriving too early for the tides, so the Sub waited for us while we got breakfast, coffee, and waited for the tides to do their thing. Below: Zach makes a few last minute repairs.

We hit the road early Zach and I, coffee in hand as we drove out into the dark. Picked up Cody and Felipe, and headed the coast yesterday, a very cold day in December. The water was a balmy 48 degrees, and not to many waves this day, but surfing with the guys is always fun.

We had the whole immediate family together this Christmas day, was so good to have us all in the same place. Even got a new puppy.  We took it down to the beach to let it swim.  Maybe the new dog will learn tricks… Until then i guess we will just have to watch Jake.

Kristen, Gerad, and Emery, some good friends of ours came over for dinner last night. I actually had the opportunity years ago to shoot my first few weddings with Kristen, (Cherished Moments Photography) she is a wedding photographer from Stanwood Washington, currently doing a limited number of weddings, due to one busy almost two-year-old, and twins on the way!

Here are a Few of Emery, He was enjoying the ‘African bush’ we have in the entry way. Kids running around in the dark are always fun to photograph (i’ll leave out the blurry ones).

below: Puerto Morelos, in contrast with the large city of canun, is relaxed, beautiful, and has a welcoming small town feel. One of my favorite stops on this last trip. Lots of birds, and few fisherman. I did get bit by crab while swimming though! bringing some excitement t0 the quiet beach.

below: Jungle meets the sea, on a boat ride around Isla de Mujeres, a more tourist filled island, but well worth seeing. The long roots on these plants holding them above the water were intricate and beautiful.

got to watch the sun grow, and then set over fish tacos and a swim… relaxation finally sunk in.

Sneak Preview: Matt Land’s Black Letterpress Business Cards Go South of the Border

“Matt Land is on a trip to Mexico and promises to send me more photos of the letterpress business cards we recently made for him at Studio Z Mendocino. This is the INCREDIBLE teaser photo he sent me today. I love it so much I could not wait to show it to you. I too have a thing for Mexico…there is just no place like it. My favorite destination. I can’t wait to see what he sends next.

Matt’s cards are foil stamped in two foil colors: a pewter-y silver and a shinier silver on super thick black Museum Mount. They are the ultimate in understated cool. Here is what he said from the road:”

“Hi Zida,

I just wanted to drop a line, I’m still down south on my trip, but wanted to send you this and say once again that I love the cards, they are perfect!

I really do enjoy shooting weddings, but there is something about Mexico…so this photo is close to my heart, and where i hope the business that these cards brings me, will keep me traveling to.

Here is where i’m staying at the moment, the guest room at YWAM (Youth With a Mission) in Cancun. Thanks so much for the hospitality guys, and all the good times. My sister currently works here, and it has been fun to see what they are up to. Lots of cool stuff.

(I’ve been told that a previous post made it look like i was high rolling it in Mexico, i guess i should clear this rumor. As fun as that would have been, the photos were just an example of one day of Mazatlan style hotel hopping… an old tradition or bad habit some might say)
