Shiloh and Heather

admin | May 17, 2010

The Gabelmans drove through town and seeing them pull up in their over-stuffed 4-runner, with two Chihuahuas, I knew it was a story worth telling.

| Profile on Shiloh |

Shiloh and I became friends in the summer of 2005. I had just moved down to Mexico for the beginning of what turned out to be a few years, and there was Shiloh. He was up in the mango tree that shaded the back yard of our house from the hot mexican sun.

I yelled for him to toss me one of those tropical, orange, juicy, fruits, and for the next few minutes we sat together devouring delicious mangoes, with my swiss army knife. Our friendship progressed from there, and mango eating continued over our time spent together.

Shiloh and I were room mates on and off for a few years in the beautiful beach town, Mazatlan, MX. We traveled together in Mexico, and spent a few months together in China during 2007.

The location where we lived in Mexico offered prime surfing and many evenings we stayed out way past dark, the waves and great conversation keeping us there. Shiloh was there for my epic encounter with a jellyfish, and I can’t even count the number of times we removed sea urchin spines from each others feet. Shiloh has skill for getting hurt in amazing ways, and I was honored to be present for a few of these moments.

Shiloh is one of my dearest friends and I even took credit for the crafting of his mohawk for a time. I had the privilege of photographing his and Heather’s wedding last summer in Alaska, where I again trimmed the mohawk. Heather is Amazing, She a Shiloh are a great team and I’m so glad they are finally married.

They are now in the middle of a long trip, from Alaska to Mexico. They are in the process of returning to where I met them. They will be working with Youth With a Mission (YWAM), and Homes of Hope, serving the poor in Mexico in a variety of ways.

I will be down to visit them later this year, and can’t wait for more mangoes, surf, and to see what they are up to then. LLTB.

Here are some photos from their visit :

After some sun, late breakfast, and a little catch up they drove off. I will be seeing them soon.

Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band

admin | May 12, 2010

The Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band | All I can say is, LISTEN to them if you have not! They are amazing, have some great tunes, and a lot of style. They are one of my favorite bands, and getting more popular by the second. The MSHVNB are friends of mine and it was exciting to see the large crowd and how much people love their stuff – I knew I did. When they ended the night with  “Albatross Albatross Albatross” it was amazing, you could feel the excitement. (see video below.)

“There’s a low buzz in the air. You can only hear it if you listen hard—very hard. But it’s there; it’s quiet now but it’s gaining in ferocity, gaining in momentum. Pretty soon it will dominate all. The buzz is that of people talking—the good ol’ word of mouth style of promotion—about Mt. St. Helens Vietnam Band.” -www.fensepost.com – The Indie Music Blog

I joined back up with the audience for the last song; so good.

Here is a song to end with and one of MSHVNB’s amazing music videos. They ended with this song, Albatross Albatross Albatross – It was amazing, the crowd went wild, and so did i. ENJOY!

I was getting out of my car at the park this evening and saw this family about to line up perfectly for a good silhouette. I slid the unlock on my iphone and get this shot. I like it.

Noah Gundersen Benefit at Three Trees

admin | May 8, 2010

Noah Gundersen double feature | opening by Beth Garber. It was a small show downtown Bellingham, at Three Trees Coffee House. It was a great night of music, and benefit concert for Human Trafficking awareness. (a lot of that going on, look into it if this surprises you – more now than before)

(My friend Kayla talking with Noah)

It’s not every night that I run across two musicians that I am CRAZY about, but I did this night. I love Noah’s Gundersen’s songs. They are like stories I found myself listening to just to find out what was going to happen, PLUS just amazing music. Beth Garber,  her music and a glass of wine (great combo) were with me when i put up this blog post. Her voice leaves you in a trance and keeps me clicking refresh on her myspace music page.

Beth Garber warms up the audience with her beautiful voice.

Noah waits outside for his turn to play.

The art on the walls at Three Trees was a good backdrop

Both are so good they just leave you smiling…
